Penn falls to 0-7 with loss at Monmouth
The Quakers got 23 points and six assists from Zack Rosen, and Mike Howlett (16 points, 10 rebounds) had his third double-double of the season, but that’s pretty much it for the good news. Monmouth defeated Penn this evening, 80-75, up in West Long Branch, N.J, and the Hawks (3-7) had nine steals and shot 52.0 percent. Penn was within 73-72 tied it at 73 with 2:13 to go, but Whitney Coleman knocked down a 3-pointer on Monmouth’s next possession. The Hawks attempted 28 free throws to the Quakers’ 11. Weird night for Penn’s Rob Belcore: Two points, nine assists and six turnovers in 34 minutes played. He also fouled out, but the last two of those fouls came in the waning seconds when the Quakers were trying to stop the clock and get the ball back. The worst part of it is this: Penn will be 0-7 for at least another 16 days. The Quakers don’t play again until Dec. 28, when they travel to Davidson, after which there are road games at Duke, Lafayette and Maryland-Baltimore County. Anyone else think this team needs Tyler Bernardini back from his foot injury, and soon?
