Balanced effort carries Temple past WMU
The Owls had four players in double figures, including Ryan Brooks, who had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and they overcame some sluggish first-half defense and a 30-point performance from Western Michigan’s David Kool to win, 76-70, last night out in Kalamazoo. And, honestly, we just like typing that word, Kalamazoo. Because it kinda sounds funny.
Anyway, the Broncs (2-3) scored 38 points in the first half, when they shot 52 percent. But Temple limited them to 36.4 percent after halftime, even if it couldn’t keep Kool from making 10 of 19 attempts from the field for the game.
The Owls, meanwhile, turned it over just six times and got 14 points from both Juan Fernandez and Craig Williams, and 13 from Lavoy Allen. Allen also hauled in seven boards and blocked three shots, while Williams made four of his seven 3-point tries, including three during a crucial 16-2 run in the second half.
Now 5-2, Temple hosts Paterno State on Saturday at the Liacouras.
