Villanova narrowly escapes against George Mason, 69-68
Well, this wasn’t what we expected, was it? Your Villanova Wildcats, ranked No. 5/6 in the nation, needed a late 3-pointer from freshman Isaiah Armwood to hold off George Mason, 69-68, down at the O’Reilly Auto Parts Puerto-Rico Tip-Off tournament. And it was ugly: The teams combined for 72 free throws, and the Wildcats were just 23-for-39 (59 percent) from the stripe. Antonio Pena, Corey Stokes and Taylor King all fouled out. Armwood knocked down the game-winner just after another member of the ‘Cats’ vaunted freshmen class, Dominic Cheek, rebounded a missed free throw by George Mason’s Sherrod Wright with 30 seconds to play. More details later.
