Temple, Saint Joe’s to play today/tonight
The Owls (1-0) are at No. 19/20 Georgetown (1-0) at the Verizon Center in D.C. for a game that tips at 4 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN as part of that tip-off marathon thingy. The Hoyas beat Tulane, 74-58, in their opener. Stopping Greg Monroe, Georgetown’s 6-11 sophomore center, will be Temple’s biggest task. Monroe had 18 points and 11 boards against the Green Wave.
The Owls’ Nest blog has a pretty comprehensive preview of the game here. They also have a neat little Q&A exchange with the Casual Hoya, a Georgetown blog, that can be found here. Enjoy.
Meanwhile, later tonight, Saint Joe’s (1-0) will entertain Holy Cross (0-1) in its second-ever game at the Hagan, with tipoff coming at 7. Remarkably, Holy Cross is 12-5 against A-10 schools since 1999-2000, including wins against Saint Joe’s in each of the last two seasons. The Crusaders lost their opener to Harvard, 87-77, on Friday. In the middle they’ve got 6-9 Andrew Keister and 6-8 Evan Meister, and the Patriot League’s coaches and SIDs picked them to finish first in the league.
