Class of 2010 Newark guard picks Temple
The Owls got a verbal from 6-4 Aaron Brown, a senior wing guard at St. Benedict’s Prep (N.J.). And according to the Daily News, Brown’s high school coach, Danny Hurley — yes, that Danny Hurley, the son of legendary St. Anthony (N.J.) coach Bob Hurley Sr., and the brother of former Duke guard Bobby Hurley — Temple “got a steal.” That said, the DN story goes on to say Seton Hall, Providence, Auburn and Virginia Tech were among Brown’s other suitors.
The Inquirer goes on to quote Hurley thusly:
“He’s played on some great high school teams so he hasn’t been the huge scorer that he would have been some where else. But he’s a smart kid, he’s a really strong student, and he has a chance to be a real impact player.”
ESPN Insiders describes Brown’s shooting as “streaky.” And after a brief Q&A from the summer of 2008 in which Brown said Kentucky had offered him (this was pre-Calipari, of course), the Northstar Basketball Blog calls Brown “a superstar in the making.” We’ll see, won’t we?
