Kentucky and 'Nova, he says.

Big story on the front page of the sports section of today’s Inquirer about Michael Gilchrist, a rising junior at St. Patrick’s (N.J.) who is considered the nation’s top recruit from the Class of 2011. And get this: He’s got ‘Nova on his list. And it’s a short list. To wit:

“It’s wide open,” the 6-foot-7 swingman said. “I want to be recruited heavily.”

The 15-year-old even elevated his arms, motioning that Kentucky and Villanova are neck and neck.

“Michael loves Villanova,” said Cindy Richardson, Gilchrist’s mother. “It’s Kentucky, Villanova. Villanova, Kentucky.”

Seriously?

“Yes,” she said.

Obviously, there’s still a long way to go, and we should never count out John Calipari’s ability to be a complete snake use his charm and personality to steer Gilchrist toward the bluegrass of Kentucky country. If there’s a positive working in ‘Nova’s favor, it’s this: Corey Fisher and Mike Nardi are both recent graduates of St. Pat’s, according to VUhoops.com.
